Top 6 tips to make your vacation budget friendly
Traveling is always fun. It is just that the financial aspect does wear people down. If you are one of those who are not going on a vacation because of money, here are the top six tips to make your holiday more budget friendly.
This is probably one of the biggest hacks of making your travel budget friendly. There is hardly a way the other tips below can work if you fail to follow this tip. Always travel light and avoid carrying excess luggage. There is one way I use in screening the items I plan to carry while traveling. If I pick up an item and I cannot tell myself why I need that item for that to travel them I am most likely dropping it.
Look for alternative accommodation and lodging
Hotels are nice, cozy, warm and EXPENSIVE. You can hardly be on a budget journey and pick a hotel not to talk of a vacation. If you are a regular traveler, you will know that there are alternative means of accommodation. One of them is hostels. Just like the name implies, you will be sharing it with some other persons. It may not be very private but it is cheaper. Another good alternative is sharing a part-time apartment with a local. This is one of the best options as it offers you privacy and even free food.
Opt for native and local dishes
Most reasons why people spend a ton on vacations is because they act mostly like tourists. As such, they usually go to places where tourists go. You cannot embark on a budget travel vacation when you always opt for “tourists” tagged restaurants. Locals usually believe that tourists are people who have money to spend instead of people who are trying to relax. This is why they increase the prices of things in those tourists’ tagged areas.
Avoid vacations during in-seasons and in-demand destinations
It is almost impossible to travel on a tight budget when you tick these two boxes. You cannot travel during a holiday season to a top tourist destination and expect not to blow your budget. You just have to choose one over the other or avoid the two cases eventually.
If you want to visit an in-demand tourist destination, you will have to visit it during the off season. If you’re going to go on a vacation during the holiday season, then you have to settle for a destination that is not much of a hot cake. It does come with certain benefits.
You get to enjoy a quieter holiday, especially if you are not a fan of “the crowd”. Visiting a place that is not a hot cake does not make your holiday any less than it is worth.
Use budget airlines or alternative means of transportation
Your flight ticket contains the cost of your flight, food and a host of other niceties. If you want to travel to Bali. Instead of Bali flights, try to check for cheap flights to Bali.
Budget airlines give you the opportunity of paying for selected features you want in your ticket instead of paying for things you may not use. This way, you can pay for just your flight without having to pay for food along with it. You may not always have to use air transportation.
Trains are the perfect means of transportation and are cheaper as well. Sea transportation is also another alternative that gives you the traveling experience at a lower cost.
Spend on what is necessary not just what catches your fancy
Just like the case of the traveling items, you should not buy anything if you cannot tell yourself what you need it for within seconds. If you later have to get it, you can still go back to do so. But once you squander that money, you cannot get it back.
